Training Opportunities
For postdoctoral fellows
The Hagerman lab welcomes inquiries from potential postdoctoral candidates who are interested in research on the molecular and cellular aspects of the pathogenesis of FXTAS and fragile X syndrome. At the present time, the main effort in the laboratory is in FXTAS research, although innovative ideas are always considered in both areas. Potential applicants need not have been involved with fragile X-related research; however, training in molecular and cellular neuroscience, neurodegeneration and neurodevelopmental research, molecular genetics, is a plus. Those with more specific interests in translational (molecular to clinical) research should consider the opportunities for dual-mentored fellowships offered through NTRI. To be eligible for NTRI Fellowships, candidates must be US citizens or be permanent residents. In exceptional cases, non-citizen candidates may be funded for NTRI Fellowships through additional funding sources. Inquire by email at our contact us page
For graduate students
There are ongoing opportunities for highly motivated graduate students to join the lab as thesis candidates. Dr. Hagerman is a member of both Neurosciences and BMB graduate groups. Inquire by email at our contact us page
For Summer / Undergraduate students
The lab endeavors to support the interests of advanced undergraduates (typically fourth year) and/or summer students, usually as volunteers or in for-credit situations (e.g., 199); however, in some cases in which students already possess considerable skills or are post-baccalaureate, some support may be provided.
